 Sandra Gabriele Trupčević - West
I was born in Germany to parents of Croatian decent. My family moved to Kansas City, Missouri not long after my birth and I was fortunate to have become an American citizen only a few years later. Because of my heritage, I have been blessed to have experienced the cultural differences of living in both Germany and Croatia, as a young girl, as well as learn the languages. I am a Professional Artist and new resident to the Florida Keys. A graduate from the University of Central Missouri, I hold a BFA degree in Commercial Art with an emphasis in Illustration. You might have spotted some of my work at shows in Kansas City, as well as the annual fund-raiser for the Northland Symphony Orchestra, on the square in Zona Rosa. Creating pieces, over the past few years, to help their cause was a wonderful experience and one that I am glad I could be a part of. My last contribution, "Dorothy" (shown in Gallery I), was dedicated to my dear friends Jon & Shawna Davies. I am a member of the FKCA (Florida Keys Council of the Arts), LKAN (Lower Keys Artists Network) and Florida Artists Registry. I currently have pieces on display at Keys Marina
(MM 24.5) on Summerland Key. While you are there, check out Big Pine Key Boat Rentals for some sun and fun on our pristine Key waters! As a child, I knew I wanted to be either an artist or a veterinarian. My lack of studiousness is what led me to my first calling. However, my love for animals will always be strong. My old neighbors, back in Kansas City, could attest to that as all the homeless cats would come to my back door for their daily feedings. I have also adored turtles since I can remember. On our third anniversary my husband, Todd, and I made our first visit to the Keys. Obviously, both of us were immediately taken in and mesmerized by its beauty. We toured the local Turtle Hospital in Marathon and I dreamingly said to him that I would love to be able to live here and work with the turtles. Needless to say, our plans for moving to the country changed drastically! I feel very fortunate just to be residing here in the Keys, but to add "the icing on the cake" I have become a member of the Save-A-Turtle organization. Helping to protect our beaches of nesting turtles and their hatchlings. I am also glad to have collaborated with the Turtle Hospital to sell my prints of their five "adoptable" turtles. All proceeds go to help the sea turtles! So, please make sure to stop by and see their wonderful operation.
Keep your eyes open for my work at local shops, galleries, and upcoming events. Hope to see you soon!
